A Quiet Stability
Bhutan, 2025
In remote mountain farming communities, daily life unfolds under geographic isolation and economic vulnerability. Families depend on subsistence agriculture, cultivating narrow fields carved into steep terrain where climate variability and wildlife incursions threaten already fragile livelihoods. Crops can be damaged overnight, and livestock losses weigh heavily on households with limited alternatives. Yet within homes and monasteries, a deep-rooted spiritual connectionto nature remains central to identity. These portraits reveal faces marked by work, exposure, and endurance. They speak of a society navigating the tension between tradition and regulation, where conservation and survival are inseparable realities shaping every decision.
