A Quiet Stability
Bhutan, 2025
These portraits, taken outside the BaAka huts, reveal a reality marked by extreme poverty yet sustained by unbroken dignity. Built from forest materials, these fragile shelters are not symbols of backwardness, but evidence of a life deeply rooted in the land. Inside and around them unfolds a daily struggle shaped by scarcity, isolation, and limited access to healthcare, education, and basic services. The BaAka live at the margins of national systems, often invisible to institutions and excluded from decision-making processes that affect their territory. Yet their faces reflect strength, belonging, and ancestral knowledge. Each gaze carries stories of survival and adaptation in a forest increasingly threatened by exploitation. These images do not seek pity, but recognition, affirming the human dignity of a people whose future is tied to the survival of their environment.
